Snowmobiling Banff/Lake Louise
Snowmobiling Banff/Lake Louise
For an exhilarating day, explore the other side of the mountains via snowmobile. Whether young or old you can enjoy the pleasures of a snowmobile tour. Safety is paramount so renting the services of an experienced guide is highly recommended. The fragile beauty of Banff National Park and the abundance of animals that you will see is just a part of the exciting experience you will have whilst touring on a snowmobile.

Tours range from Novice to seasoned pros. As Lake Louise is in the protected National Park, snowmobiles and other power sports must be done outside of Banff National Park gates. This however is no great concern as one can either head East of Banff to Canmore into Kananaskis Country or go 40 minutes west of Lake Louise into British Columbia and the Purcell Mountains.

One of the most popular areas for families in the Golden and Purcell Mountain area is the Quartz Creek Trail, which provides a wonderfully relaxed ride on a network of logging roads. The trail starts at 4,500 feet and climbs to 8,500 as it meanders along the creek up into the high alpine. Quartz Creek has everything from rolling hills to steep hill climbing. The prairie hills at the back of the basin are excellent to play around in. Go fast, get buried, stuck or wet, it's all fun. Since winter brings with it so much darkness why not use it to your advantage and enjoy a beautiful starlight ride in the Canadian Rocky Mountains with a chance of experiencing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

East of Lake Louise on the Banff and Canmore side one can experience the Kananaskis region. Inside this great expanse one can find the Cataract Creek and Etheringtion Creek area, which offer over 100 km of well-groomed, well-marked snowmobile routes. This area is a snowmobiles dream, a vast, untamed area criss-crossed with trails. The nearby Highwood Mountain range, with its jagged peaks and rolling alpine meadows, is home for elk, bighorn sheep and grizzly bears.

Most Snowmobile tour companies provide suits, helmets and boots. However you should bring a camera, sunglasses, sunscreen, and daypack. As tours usually last 5 hrs to a full day it is best to bring a wide selection of clothing including personal ski wear, fleece underclothes, long underwear, wool socks, ski gloves or mitts.

So grab your goggles and suit up for a day of adventure and see the Lake Louise area from a different vantage point.
