Take an easy glide, or race. Pull your child behind you in a toboggan. The clean
surrounding air will energize and invigorate you. With the surrounding outdoor
beauty, why not strap on those ice-skates and enjoy a brisk spin or a romantic
skate with a loved one. You can skate in front of the Fairmont Chateau Lake
Louise with its elaborate ice sculptures and picturesque Victoria Glacier in the
foreground. Night skating on this magnificent lake is an experience you don't
want to miss!
The Emerald Lake Lodge at Emerald Lake also cleans off an area of ice that one can enjoy during the winter months.
For year round skating Banff has an indoor ice arenas. While in the winter, Banff
has several outdoor, community ice rinks for your skating pleasure.
Ice Skating Tips
- Always skate on sharp skates. Sharp skates carve into the ice and create less friction therefore you use less energy during your skate.
- Make sure your laces aren't tied too tight. If you can wiggle your toes, then
your laces are tied correctly. A good rule of thumb is to tie your laces loose at
the toe gradually and progressively tightening them as you reach the ankle.
- Skates are generally one size smaller than your street shoes.
- Wear warm, layered clothing that permits movement. This will keep you warm and
won't restrict your movement on the ice.
- Take notice of and adhere to all thin-ice warning signs.
